Research Ethics Harmonization Working Group
The Research Ethics Harmonization Working Group falls under the direction of the SWAHN Knowledge Generation and Translation Committee (KGTC).
The purpose of the Research Ethics Harmonization Working Group is to explore potential frameworks with respect to developing a process for agreements involving organizations that contribute to SWAHN to obtain ethics approvals when working together on research initiatives that are in keeping with SWAHN’s mission to improve the health of Southwestern Ontario’s population. (NOTE: The Working Group’s efforts will focus on research that involves human subjects (only) and SWAHN-related projects.)
To accomplish this goal, the Working Group will:
- Ensure that its activities are aligned with the goals of SWAHN (i.e., to transform health in Southwestern Ontario through integrated excellence in research, education and clinical practice);
- Liaise with and report to the KGTC concerning matters related to the focus and advancement of the Working Group’s activities;
- Develop short and long term goals in collaboration with the Education Committee which will be specific, measurable, and achievable in one to two years (short term) and three to five years (long term);
- Identify appropriate performance measures to monitor progress and performance of the Working Group;
- Liaise with SWAHN’s financial contributors as well as with other SWAHN Committees and Working Groups to ensure that the needs across the region and the Network are considered and addressed.
